Crows are Creepy

While walking around Indiana State's campus this last week, I couldn't help but notice the unusual amount of crow's and their droppings. And we wonder why no one wants to come to school here?

According to the local newspaper, it is estimated that around 32,000 crows are roosting in Terre Haute this winter. A biology professor at the university hypothesizes that they chose Terre Haute because of the warmth and lights.

So, it seems over the next few months of winter, the residents and students should not only watch their step, but keep a look out in the skies, you never know what may be dropping for a nice little surprise.

  1. Crows are not creepy. You should take the time to learn about them. They are one of the most intelligent animals--making tools, solving multiple step problems and puzzles, training their young for several years. Intelligence on the level of a gorilla or chimp. They are one of the few birds that can recognize individual human beings and remember if that human was good or bad to them. They communicate this to their offspring. They live in family groups. Some crows migrate, some don't. The crows that come to Terre Haute each winter are believed to be from northern Ohio and Michigan. It's more like 55,000 coming here. Terre Haute is one of the few "crow cities" where they choose to migrate. The city could actually have fun, make money, and increase its standing by embracing the crows. There is already a crow-themed art show every year. One year, we had a crow fest. This should be held annually like the bat fest at ISU. Education is the key to understanding and loving the crow.
